GREAT BRITISH QUEST FOR ETERNAL YOUTH

Defying the ageing process – high on many agendas – can benefit from a little surgical help and new research has revealed our priorities
A variety of tactics – diet and exercise – are often not enough to maintain a more youthful appearance and research by Optimax shows what is top of the list with a suggested windfall of £6k. Dental implants were first with 17% of respondents opting for these. Tummy tucks were next ….chosen by 17% of women and 5% of men. Breast surgery, facelifts, nose reshaping and hair transplants were all up there, along with laser and lens replacement surgery often to remove the need for glasses.
“Reading glasses are a tremendous giveaway to a person’s age. All the Botox and fillers in the world may help but the moment you reach for a pair of readers you are telling everyone something more than you might wish about your age,” said Dr Ilango, Medical Director of Optimax.
“As a population we are becoming more and more dependent on vision correction and 37.7% of respondents had started to wear specs or contact lenses by the age of 18. This is a much higher figure than we would have expected to see ten years ago. By the age of 49, 86.6% of respondents were using specs for reading and some for distance vision.
“Many people are realising that a lifetime of wearing glasses and contact lenses – plus paying thousands of pounds for them over the decades – could be greatly reduced or eliminated by an increasingly popular option of laser surgery or replacement lens techniques by experienced surgeons,” he added.
