GREEN CHARTER SETS SUSTAINABILTY LEVELS FOR OPTICS
Posted on: November 10, 2022, by : Janice EnglishThe OSA’s new Green Charter is the most significant initiative for the optical community in a decade. The charter, along with the sustainability glossary which provides a detailed understanding of the terms used, aims to ensure that everyone is engaged in the journey to sustainability. Providing a framework, with targets to be met, it helps companies of all sizes to move forward. The four levels of sustainability accreditation aim for carbon net zero, eliminating all single use plastics and embraces ISO14001 Environmental Management and the attainment of B Corp certification
Embarking on the OSA Green Charter calls for a Sustainability Officer to be appointed, and Sustainability Champions across each part of the company. Every aspect of operations should be addressed from greener premises, reducing transportation, eliminating paper use and promoting energy saving in production. The guidance has been widely welcomed by the optical community #sustainabilityinoptics
